How is it possible for one to feel isolated in a modern world where you can interact with anyone, anywhere? February is the marvelous season of love, and yet it can be so hard to feel that for others and especially ourselves. How do we get back to our innate human need to connect with the people and places around us; how do we learn to appreciate the little things; how do we relate to one another when we start to feel like we’re the only person who could possibly be going through what we’re going through?

When I pondered this question, the obvious answer was music. Music has always been a way to connect. You’re on a road trip and hear a song from childhood that evokes nostalgia, and suddenly you and all your friends are singing it at the top of your lungs. You’re in the club and a line dance erupts that gets everyone on the floor. You’re lying in bed and play a breakup song, and something like relief fills your body as the lyrics line up perfectly with your own messy situationship. You’re not alone. You’re not crazy. With a bossa nova beat or swanky tone alone, a song can make its listener feel something, everything, all kinds of things. Regardless of origin, regardless of language, regardless of culture and regardless of identity. For this reason, music is the universal language. It’s what keeps us all wired.

“WIRED” started out as a silly little daydream. I was heading home on the T, listening to Frank Ocean, and thinking to myself: wouldn’t it be nice if I had someone to share this music with? BOOM. Ideas started to churn, and I immediately reached out to our creative director Rose for her thoughts. Could we really make an entire editorial project about love in less than a week? Yes. As soon as I got the green light, I hopped into action, and recruited members of Five Cent Sound to make this happen.

What was a hopeless romantic side quest quickly turned into a full blown photo series with video accompaniment. With ten different photographers and videographers and fourteen models, “WIRED” will be the most elaborate and unique visual media FCS has ever put out. It showcases the connections we make through music, everything from the melodic butterflies that come with a first kiss to the songs of yearning we listen to while thinking about something or someone we love. I am so, so proud of everyone that contributed their talents to produce this, and grateful to have been given the chance to direct “WIRED” at all.

Our playlist, “WIRED”, is a compilation of everything our team at Five Cent Sound has listened to while on set for this project. These are songs that we love, and we hope you love them too! I, and the rest of the FCS team, am wishing readers a very special Valentine’s Day. Please enjoy everything that’s coming! Until next time ✧˖°˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥˚₊·💌˚₊·˚₊·˚₊·✧˖°˚₊♥
