Playlist: BHM: Boston(ish) Based

Celebrate this Black History Month by tuning into the music of Black Boston (ish) based artists. From old school sounds like Donna Summers, to the new names of the city like Hannah Jane. These artists have some connection with our beloved corner of the world, whether they’re a Massachusetts native or a current student in the area.

Dive in to learn which of your favorite songs hail from Boston. You are guaranteed to discover a new favorite group or singer, either from the street sounds of the 80’s to 90’s, or from the newer, advanced tracks of today. Some of my personal repeats include Khamari’s “Cherry Picking”, which just surpassed “Doctor My Eyes” as my pick for this playlist. Miranda Rae’s “Sure” is another favorite, but really any of her music is great. ESPECIALLY if you can hear it live (thank you Boston house-show scene). And of course, Bell Biv DeVoe’s “Poison,” which I’m sure most of you would recognize from TikTok, but my real hip-hoppers know from studio classes back in the early 2000’s.

Once you’re done listening, make sure to look into the discography of the artists that speak to you the most! This playlist just includes one track from each musician or group. If you are lucky, you may discover that your favorites are playing by you soon.
