Braving the Breakup: BIZZY on Her New Single “Tastes Like Shit”
Navigating a dating world where heartbreak seems inevitable would be enough to make anyone put their guard up. When it comes to love, Nashville-based pop artist, BIZZY, was used to being the one to call it quits if she wasn’t feeling it in an effort to preserve her own feelings. Though far from a player, she usually ended relationships on her terms, citing most breakups that she’d experienced as amicable and mutual. That was until this past year, when the tables turned and BIZZY found herself in a position that she’d put others in before without second thought.
After experiencing this heart-wrenching breakup, BIZZY reflected on her own role in previous relationships and began to see her current situation as a form of karmic retribution. Instead of letting this uncomfortable realization bring her down, she channeled it into her music, giving way to her latest angst-ridden single, “Tastes Like Shit.”
Born and raised in Maryland, BIZZY received her first guitar around age 12 from her dad, who was also a musician. She began playing as a hobby and used her practice sessions as an escape, quickly developing a passion for country songwriting. After studying music at Belmont University in Nashville, BIZZY spent a few years writing for other singers before deciding to define herself as a solo artist.
As she began to shape her sound, which she describes as “ever-changing,” she found herself transitioning from the country genre that she was so familiar with to a more pop-oriented style. Drawing inspiration from pop-punk icons such as Avril Lavigne and Hilary Duff, BIZZY let her songwriting reflect her current thoughts and feelings, allowing for both her lyrics and melodies to resonate with audiences worldwide.
With a distinct sound that combines raw, unfiltered emotion and rock-infused instrumentation, BIZZY has accumulated over 15 million streams across her catalog of eight singles and an EP. Her music can be enjoyed for its lyrics or for its catchy melodies alone, leaving layers to be discovered upon listening.
“Tastes Like Shit” is certainly no exception. The song opens with only guitar, on piercing power chords that give way to a full band within the first few seconds. The verses are more mellow, allowing the listener to focus on BIZZY’s distinct vocal tone and songwriting until the chorus comes in full-blast.
“I kind of love the rage,” BIZZY said when asked what she hopes listeners will take from her newest release, “They can treat it as a happy, fun, sing-in-the-car or scream with your girlfriends song, but if you want to dive into the lyrics that’ll give you a whole other meaning.”
BIZZY has made it clear that this is just the beginning for her. If you’d like to check out her full discography or social media, you can find her on Spotify here, or follow her on Instagram @srryimbizzy.
