Playlist: Wholesome Love

When it comes to love songs, modern music has nothing on that of the 20th century. While not all of the music on this playlist is actually from the 50’s, I aimed to group together some songs that convey the themes of wholesome love that were often at the forefront of 50’s music, with a list that will make you feel a simple happiness. 

It’s certainly worth mentioning that the romantic ideals of the “picture perfect 50’s” were often riddled with domestic abuse, crippling expectations associated with gender roles, exclusively straight white people, and other such problems that are not particularly songworthy. With this playlist, I’m hoping only to embrace the messaging of these songs, and glorify love that is so strong it inspires its captives to make music.

In the hookup culture of the 21st century, romantic ideals are scarce. While modern dating has its perks, it often leaves much to be desired by lovers of a big romantic gesture, or even basic respect in some cases. I know a lot of us miss the days where courting was a little more sweet, and a little less dense with expectations. Use this playlist to manifest a partner that will treat you like the subject of one of these songs!
