Playlist: Spring Fling!

My mama told me recently that people come into your life for a season and a reason. I found this phrase hilarious, as well as meaningful. There are all these terms for seasonal relationships, “cuffing season” being the most used as of late. This references a time period between autumn and winter where people get together for a very cozy relationship to survive the harsh, colder months. However, my favorite seasonal relationship is the classic “spring fling”.

As the weather slowly becomes warmer, our brains start to feel lighter. Now that the days stretch out longer, the sun shows its face more and our attraction to people increases. At least, that’s what it feels like. I find myself wanting to dress more colorfully and take my time with everything. You’re able to admire the beauty of things again with the flowers blooming, and people are spending more of their leisure time together instead of just trying to get from their homes to work and vice versa. In between those pockets of peace, you may find new faces in your life, and now that you’ve escaped the mental challenges that come with winter in New England, perhaps you can open your heart up to someone new.

Love in the spring is a different kind of vulnerability, one where you’re not sure if this is something that will only last a few months or if it’ll continue to grow throughout the seasons. That’s the risk of the fling. Some of these songs hold the melody of springtime, while others tell a different story of love in the spring. The happy moments, the feeling of things fleeting, the times when you feel your heart blossoming at the sight of your person.

I hope when you listen to these songs, you can embrace that feeling of love in the spring.
