Wallows Bring Energy to Rhode Island

Wallows closed out their Nothing Happens tour Monday March 2nd at Fete Music Hall to a sold out, energetic crowd. The trio consists of childhood friends Braeden Lemasters (guitar, vocals), Cole Preston (drums, vocals), and Dylan Minnette (guitar, keyboard, vocals). “It feels great to finally be releasing our debut record,” Wallows state. “We’ve been playing together for the past 10 years, so it’s been a long time coming. Nothing Happens reflects on our experiences growing up together, our loss of innocence and the thoughts and fears that come with transitioning into adulthood.”

The crowd was buzzing with anticipation during the opener, Penelope Isles, a British pop band that describes their sound as “melodic, fuzz-pop with dynamics to transfix and satisfy”.

However, the second the Wallows boys stepped on stage it was obvious who the crowd was there for. The band was met with lively screams as they opened with their 2017 single “Pulling the Leaves off Trees”. They then continued to play a mix of fan favorites from both their full length and debut EP.

After playing “Scrawny” (my personal favorite), the band took a quick break. As a special treat for the fans at their last stop of the tour, Wallows came back out and covered a mix of songs that was the perfect concoction for the late teens and early 20s crowd: “Blister in the Sun” by Violent Femmes, “Do I Wanna Know” by Arctic Monkeys, “What’s My Age Again” by Blink-182, and “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction.

Showcasing both their musical talent and star power stage presence the other night, Wallows is definitely a band to keep an eye out for.
