The Maine Makes Everything OK

If I’m being completely honest, I had no idea who the The Maine were until the fall of 2018. You can trace back my discovery of this band to one specific life event; moving in with my freshman year roommate. She would constantly talk about them, spewing facts like she had created a mental log of every one. On top of it, she blasted their music constantly. As a result, I subconsciously knew every song.

When I heard The Maine was coming to Boston on their “The Mirror” tour, I knew that I simply had to go. I had to see why my roommate had spent the past 13 years of her life following this fiercely independent band. I was not disappointed to say the least.

Dubbing it “their most ambitious tour to date”, the show wasn’t just about the music. Beforehand, the band had one specific instruction for the audience; wear mustard yellow. But that wasn’t all. From the stage design to the on-screen visuals to the groups matching outfits, there was not a single detail left unthought of.

Being around for 13 years, the band has an extensive discography, making it impossible to play every song. Regardless, the band showcased an impressive variety, rocking the house with songs from not only their most recent album You Are Ok, but as well as with 2008’s Can’t Stop Won’t Stop, 2010’s Black and White, 2011’s Pioneer, 2013’s Forever Halloween, 2015’s American Candy, and 2017’s Little Lovely Lonely. Frontman John O’Callaghan kept the crowd engaged and energized with his fierce stage presence. The crowd ate this energy up, multiplying their enthusiasm with every song.

As I left the venue in my yellow pants, I couldn’t help but smile. Thank you to The Maine for an unforgettable evening.
