Playlist: Why Would A Man Be There

An unfortunate truth I have faced recently is that the average person knows “Fast Car” as a Luke Combs song rather than a Tracy Chapman song. It crushes me, but I cannot continue being shocked by people insisting it is his original song. While this is not a dig at Combs nor his musical stylings, his wildly popular cover is a testament to what women have always known: men will receive credit for someone else’s hard work. It will happen, it will piss you off, and it will happen again.

To level the playing field a bit, this playlist comprises covers of men’s songs done by women. I implore you to argue with everyone about who originated these songs, as I have defended Robyn, Alicia Keys, and, of course, Tracy Chapman.
