Playlist: Slaying in the Springtime
A playlist by Izzy Astuto.
I am a very busy person. I don’t say this to brag, it’s just a fact. I like being committed, and with so many different interests it is incredibly easy to find a plethora of films, magazines and other causes to commit to.
In the wintertime, this business is not particularly fun. I’ll get an email about a meeting scheduled in 172 Tremont and feel a small part of myself shrivel up inside. I know that I’m very spoiled compared to other colleges with actual sprawling campuses, but in the wind, snow and slog it feels like a death sentence.
This year no one could forget when the first day of spring was, with the drastic shift in weather. As the sun once again revealed itself to the city of Boston, I felt a spring in my skip as I rushed from work to class to meeting. With the arrival of warm weather I’m allowed to take a step back from my responsibilities and remember that yes, I actually enjoy all of these things I’ve gotten myself involved with.
As the seasons shift so does my mood, which means my music is soon to shift too. Seasonal depression steeped in Sufjan Stevens and The Smiths begins to melt into Kali Uchis and Hippo Campus, and I feel my body relax. I let myself take a breath of the air, tinged with the smell of blossoming flowers and new beginnings.
