Playlist: Change Is Coming

It’s difficult to fathom what is going on in our country, our world, and to understand the hate in the hearts of hateful humans. My playlist “Change is Coming” is complied of 16 songs that each tell a story, ranging from the time of slavery all the way to our current social and political climate with the Black Lives Matter movement. Placing the songs in a specific order, I wanted to tell a story chronologically, looking at the message and titles of the tracks. More than that, I wanted to end with the 3 songs, “Black America Again,” “This is America,” and “Freedom” to emphasize that freedom will come once everyone is accepted, no matter what. I think now is a different time than the cycle of post, listen, forget, repeat because the violent murder of George Floyd sparked a revolution. In the playlist, I specifically only added songs produced/written/sung by black artists in order to gain perspective, listen and learn from their stories and experiences. Change is Coming is the soundtrack to the change that is happening before our very eyes and will continue to happen as all our voices come together and overpower the oppressive voices that have been too loud for too long.
