Microwave Shatters Cambridge
When I discovered Microwave’s song “Lighterless” in early June, I knew that I had to experience it’s sheer power live. Naturally, when I saw that they were coming to Boston, I was there. The show, held at The Sinclair in Cambridge, hosted an outstanding lineup of bands; Selfish Things, Heart Attack Man, Microwave and Boston Manor.
The energy displayed by lead vocalist Nathan Hardy is what first caught my attention during their set. He engaged the crowd with his vivacity, jumping into “Vomit”, a song pulled off of their 2016 EP Much Love.
The ridiculous good vibe of the band was carried through the entire room, walls shaking with the volume of the music. As the setlist worked its way to “Leather Daddy”, the first song off of their most recent album Death is a Warm Blanket, the room was electric. Crowd surfers kept the security guards on their toes, flooding towards the stage upwards of five at a time.
As I stood on the balcony, overlooking the stage, the cohesion I saw in the band was breathtaking. The members looked as if they were moving in their own dimension.
Their set came to a close, but the crowd was not done as they shouted for an encore persistently for 5 minutes.
I excited the venue, still buzzing from the show. I had come to hear “Lighterless” but I left with 10 new favourite songs.
