An Emotional Evening with Lukas Graham
It wasn’t until the end of an emotional evening that the masses of people crowded into the historic House of Blues could trace the beautiful music of Lukas Graham directly back into their souls. The night captivated every emotion, as the crowd was taken on a journey between the lightest and darkest of their emotional spectrum.
Lukas Graham, a Danish pop band named after lead singer Lukas Graham Forchammer, rose to international fame in 2015 when their hit song “7 Years” won over American audiences. The band played songs from both “Lukas Graham (The Blue Album)” and “3 (The Purple Album), sprinkling in their two most recently released singles. By 10 PM Sunday night they had finished their tour and the group left it all in the venue - including the drummer’s drumsticks and Forchammer’s shirt, which he performed the majority of the night without.
While the focal point of their concerts may be the lead singer, drummer Mark Falgren - who was only ever referred to by his pseudonym ‘Lovestick’ - stole the show. Having played alongside Forchhammer for sixteen years the two had remarkable chemistry, and every second of the concert was lifted by his electric playing. His drum solo shook the room, quite literally.
Lukas Graham is a group most noted for their songwriting, as they delve into some of the deeper and more daunting parts of the emotional spectrum. In less than two hours they were able to bring the crowd from a hush to an emphatic roar. The crowd quieted when they played “Love Someone” a delicate ballad about the peacefulness of being in love which embraces the worrying feeling of losing your significant other. The crowd then exploded when they performed “Take the World by Storm” an anthem for trailblazers who denounce anything which may hold them back from achieving their goals.
When the group returned for their encore, Forchhammer told a story about receiving a letter from a 6 year old boy whose father recently passed. When telling the story he teared up on stage, prompting the crowd to shower him with sympathy. Forchhammer discredited their sympathy and reminded the audience that all emotions are important, not just the happy ones.
The group finished their vehement performance with “7 Years” and the crowd exploded in a way that they hadn’t before. Though the song has no easily memorized and repetitive chorus, the thousands of people who filed into the House of Blues knew every line and they recited it from the deepest parts of their souls. It was a moment of pure bliss which ended a night of both saccharine and exuberant feelings.
From start to finish the group earned every penny they made, as they ended their tour with a performance that everyone in that building will surely remember.
